The Red Bright-eyed Frog lives in pristine rain forests of eastern Madagascar. The mating season coincides with the rainy season, from November to April. The male frogs call from vegetation 1- 2 meters (3.2 – 6.6 feet) off the ground. Eggs are laid in slow flowing streams.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assesses the Red Bright-eyed Frog as Least Concern for Extinction. This is due to their wide range and large population. Only major threat to the frog is habitat loss due the destruction of the forests they call home. The forests are being destroyed to make room for human settlements, farms, and charcoal manufacturing.
