The Australian Wood Frog is the only species in the family Ranidae native to Australia. They live in rain forests and tropical woodlands near permanent streams, lakes, ponds, or pools. The females of the species are slightly larger than the males.
The frog breeds mostly during summer and spring but can mate during any season following heavy rain fall.
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assesses the Australian Wood Frog as Least Concern for Extinction. They have a wide range, large population, and no big threats.
