The answer to this week’s frog or toad is…. complicated but let’s go with toad. It is called the Short-limbed Frog, or Sikkim Spade Foot Frog (Scutiger sikimmensis) from the family Megophryidae. It is found in the Himalayas.

The species used to be part of the True Toad family – Bufonidae but it was moved to Megophryidae which isn’t really a toad family. It has features of a toad, bumpy, wart skin and apparently a paratoid gland?

The answer to this week’s frog or toad is…. FROG. It is a Cape Rain Frog (Breviceps gibbosus) from the family Brevicipitidae. It is found in Southern Africa and is also the largest rain frog.

To figure out it’s a frog, you could have realized it’s a rain frog because the Common Rain Frog is the frog of the week. If you didn’t see that, I’d look at the lack of parotid gland and the lack of warts.

The answer to this frog or toad is….FROG. It is a
New Guinea Bush Frog (Asterophrys turpicola) from the family Microhylidae – the Narrowed Mouth Frogs. The frog is found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Best ways to tell its a frog is the lack of parotid gland on the side of it’s neck and the toes are really long. Remember, there’s no perfect way.
