Size: 0.74 – 0.90 inches (19 – 23 mm)

The Black-eared Mantella lives in tropical forests around swamps of Madagascar. It is one of the smallest species of Mantella. Not all individuals are red, some are green in color.

After mating, the female lays the eggs on land. Then, the eggs are washed into the swamp following heavy rains.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assesses the Black-eared Mantella as Critically Endangered. The frog lives only in a small area that is threatened by agriculture and human development.
