Bahrain is home to only one frog species and zero toads! For a small island nation that is mostly desert, that’s not bad.

Common Name:Â Marsh Frog
Scientific Name:Â (Pelophylax ridibundus)
The Marsh Frog lives and breeds in fresh water springs around the main island. However, over use of the Damman Aquifer has decreased the stream’s fresh water levels. Additionally, pollution from various sources has killed off some of the frogs. he Al Areen Wildlife Park and Reserve has started captive breeding them but there needs to be more changes island wide to save the frog.
