The answer is…..TOAD. It is a Eastern Spadefoot Toad (Scaphiopus holbrookii) from the family Scaphiopodidae, the American Spadefoot Toads.
While it’s not a true toad, the Spadefoot Toads share the same stocky body. While you can’t it, the toad’s have spades on their rear foot to help with digging.
