A new species of frog was found in the Hoang Lien Mountains in northern Vietnam and South China by the research team of Benjamin Tapley, Timothy Cutajar, Stephen Mahony, Chung Thanh Nguyen, Vinh Quang Dau, Tao Thien Nguyen, Hao Van Luong, Jodi Rowley. Many new species of frogs have recently been discovered in Vietnam. The species was named the Red-thighed Horned Frog (Megophrys rubrimera) after it’s bright red thighs. It’s a member of the family Megophryidae – the leaf liter frogs.
The species is already in danger of extinction like so many other amphibian species. The forests were the Red-thighed Horned Frog lives are being destroyed to make room for more farms.
