Norhayati’s Gliding Frog (Rhacophorus norhayatii)

Common Name: Norhayati’s Gliding Frog, Wallace’s Orange-sided Tree Frog, and Orange-sided Whipping Tree Frog
Scientific Name: Rhacophorus norhayatii
Family: Rhacophoridae – Asian Tree Frog family
Location: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand
Size: 3.2 inches (88 mm)

Norhayati’s Gliding Frog is an arboreal tree frog living in primary and secondary rain forests. Like many flying frogs, they have highly webbed feet that allow the frog to glide from tree to tree. This species is relatively new as it was only described in 2010 as it thought it was Reinwardt’s Flying Frog (Rhacophorus reinwardtii).

Their call has been described as wood pecker like.

The specific epithet norhayatii honors Dr. Norhayati Ahmad of the National University of Malaysia.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assess the Norhayati’s Gliding Frog as Least Concern for Extinction. The frogs have a decent range and a presumed large population.
