Today I had off of work so I went to visit Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Milwaukee. I had never been there before so I wanted to check it out.
Walking up to the main building, they had a cute Red tail hawk. I snapped a few pictures of it and went inside to pay.
I also found a Robin (Turdus migratorius) nest by the Red tail hawk and saw the mom on the nest but it flew away before i got a pic but you can see the babies’ cute head.
i spotted this trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) on the trails. Easy plant to remember the name of them tri – three leaves.
This is a male Red Winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) that i saw near a nest. I don’t know if there was eggs in the nest or even the nest was the red winged black birds but Red Winged Blackbirds are very protective of their nests and will attack people. Luckily, I did not get attacked today.
Here’s a Downy Wood Pecker (Picoides pubescens) that I saw.
Some Canadian Geese (Branta canadensis) that I thought would never move away from me.
Some species of Garter Snake (Thamnophis sp.) that I was able to catch.
Some Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta) in one of the ponds.
First frog I’ve seen alive in 2017! Either a Green Frog or an American Bull Frog. I’m leaning towards American Bullfrog because I don’t think I see a dorsal ridge. I didn’t catch it because it was far away and I didn’t want to go of the trails.
This is a Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum) I believe. Beautiful flower when it opens.
Here’s a tower that you can climb. I climbed it even though I hate heights.
Here’s the view of Lake Michigan from it.
I believe this is Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia)
Another flower that I’m not 100% on but I think its Common Cinquefoil (Potentilla simplex)
Eventually I got down to the lake shore and it was marvelous.
Check out Schlitz Audubon Nature Center if you are ever in Milwaukee.
