Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s a frog!

When you see this bird, you don’t think it could be confused with a frog, but it was. In India, a local forester named C R Nanik noticed a frog species that made a call similar to the White Throated Kingfisher. He recorded the call and let some local researchers listen to it. They all assumed it was the bird, but they were wrong. One researcher,  Seshadri K S,  decided to investigate the claim and traveled to find this frog. After a few hours during the night looking, he found it.

The frog was a new species. It was named Karaavali skittering frog (Euphlyctis karaavali) after Karaavali, the region where it was found.
