A new species of poison dart frog was discovered in the Andes Mountains in Peru. Its name is the Amarakaeri Poison Dart Frog, Ameerega shihuemoy.
The males of the species provide care for their eggs by cleaning them, making sure they are moist and guarding them. One male found was guarding 25 eggs at once.
Amarakaeri Poison Dart Frogs are found in a very bio-diverse area of Peru that is threatened with logging and mining. The scientist team that found them proposed that the frog species should be listed as Near Threatened.
