The Fischer’s Clawed Salamanders lives high in the mountains of Russia in streams and the surrounding areas. Like the other members of the genus Onychodactylus, the Fischer’s Clawed Salamander does not have lungs. They just breathe through their skin.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List assess the Fischer’s Clawed Salamander as Near Threatened with Extinction. The salamander’s range is not fully finalized but the size of the range will determine the salamander’s conservation status. The larger the ranger, the least concern they were with it. Since the range wasn’t decided, they went in the middle with Near Threatened.
